Senior Sindh Minister Nisar Khuhro on Wednesday said powers to the paramilitary force have been granted under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATC).
Speaking in a talkshow on a private news channel, Khuhro said there is nothing new in the resolution and the powers granted to Sindh Rangers are the same as laid down in the law. He said Rangers had been requisitioned to restore and maintain law and order in Karachi.
Khuhro said in light of the resolution adopted on Wednesday, Sindh Rangers will have to seek the provincial government’s permission prior to conducting a raid on a government office. He said it was the Sindh government and no one else which had called out Rangers in Karachi.
Also participating in the programme, opposition leader in Sindh Assembly and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Khawaja Izharul Hassan said his party is not against the Karachi operation.
“We were only trying to get our reservations (in connection with Karachi operation) addressed,” he clarified.
He said Sindh government does not take any time in passing a resolution that serves its interest.
