Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue Chairman and PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwallahas on Monday warned that his political party along with other opposition parties would hold protests at all the airports of the country if Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is privatised through an ordinance.
“Why has the government not sought approval from the Senate and the NA for privatisation of PIA with due diligence before making decision of selling its assets and instead promulgated an ordinance which is un-constitutional?” Senator Mandviwalla questioned in a press statement issued from his office.
The senator said that Nawaz government always sold national assets through unconstitutional ways, as it sold PTCL in the past. He demanded that Judicial Commission should be set up to probe the affairs of PIA and a financial audit of the last 10 years should be done. He demanded that responsible should be brought to light before the privatisation of PIA.
He said that PPP had strongly opposed the federal government over privatisation of the country biggest airline due to losses during the last few years.
