A seminar on Climate Change adaptation was organized by Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan on Thursday.
Focus Pakistan’s Head Ms Nusrat Nasab said 40% population of the world is mountainous.
She said if we did not do anything for climate change, future generations would curse us.
The lead author of National Climate Change Policy, Dr Qamar-uz- Zaman Chaudhary, chief guest on the occasion, said if business as usual continues, by the end of the 21st century temperature of the earth will increase by 4 degree centigrade.
He said Pakistan was the only country in the world which had Climate Change Ministry on Federal level, whose minister has been appointed recently.
He said Pakistan isn’t among larger carbon emission countiers that’s way it should focus on adaptation aspect of the climate change.
He said Pakistan is counted in the top ten vulnerable countries in terms of climate change. Steps need to be taken to resolve the issues in this regards, he added
Muhammad Irfan Khan, chairman Environmental Science Department of Islamic International University, Islamabad ( IIUI) said, Glaciers in Northern Pakistan are melting causing devastating floods and subsequent displacements of people.
He said climate change is severely affecting agriculture sector, on which larger population depends.
Political and institution dimension is critical in dealing with Climate Change, he added.
