The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday stopped 30 deportees from leaving the airplane from Greece that landed at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International airport earlier today (Thursday).

“On the interior minister’s orders, the FIA has not allowed these illegally deported people and the aircraft crew to leave the plane,” the interior ministry said in a statement.

“The 30 were unverified deportees who had arrived in Islamabad on a charter flight from Greece,” the statement added.

The interior ministry said it has ordered the FIA not to allow any passenger to leave the plane without thorough verification of documents and citizenship. It said that Greek authorities had not provided proper documented proof of the passengers being Pakistani citizens and their deportation.

Sources said that the interior minister had asked the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) over why it had allowed the charter plane to land.
