Despite clear orders from the Supreme Court, Pakistan Printing Press got the ballot papers printed from outside, while the ballot paper printing machines also found to be second-hand, a private news channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the channel, the apex court had ordered the government to ensure the printing of ballot papers in Pakistan Printing Corporation (PPC) during the LG elections and ordered to import latest machinery in this regard.
According to PPC documents, a board meeting was held in April in which the decision was taken to import new machines for the printing of 12 million ballot papers and according to the purchase order, the corporation paid millions for 20 new machines but the machines were found to be used.
Despite the purchase of new machines, not all the ballot papers were printed in PPC. Printing Corporation Karachi Press was not given the task of printing due to which paper worth more than Rs 80 million has been wasted, the channel claimed.
