9-member body formed to probe attack on military police

A nine-member committee headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Dr Jameel has been formed to probe the attack on military police that left two personnel martyred.

The committee will report on the developments on daily basis. Reportedly, the law enforcement institutions in a high-level meeting in Karachi have resolved to form the probe committee which is headed by the DIG South and includes the senior superintendent of police (SSP) West, SSP Investigation South, SSP South, SSP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and SSP City.

The committee has been assigned the task of identifying and arresting the terrorists. It will start the investigation process from the clues obtained through the CCTV footages and images and will report on the developments on daily basis. As per notification, the committee will remain functional until the suspects are arrested. The committee’s head is authorised to seek help from anyone in Karachi range.

TWO TERRORISTS KILLED, OVER 60 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Rangers and police have intensified search operations in Karachi after two army personnel were martyred by unidentified gunmen at MA Jinnah Road on Tuesday.

According to details, Rangers conducted a search operation near Northern Bypass on an intelligence received about the presence of criminals in the area. Terrorists opened fire at the raiding party. Rangers retaliated the fire as a result of which two terrorists were killed.

A Rangers spokesperson informed media that the identity of dead terrorists was not yet known. He said Rangers recovered a hand grenade and weapons from the custody of terrorists involved in the killing of security personnel.

On the other hand, police arrested 20 suspects during a search operation in Manghopir area. According to the SSP South, 35 other suspects were arrested during search operations in Saddar and areas around MA Jinnah Road. Rangers also arrested one person during a search operation in Bheempura area while another five were arrested from MA Jinnah Road. The arrested persons were shifted to some undisclosed location for further investigation.
