Gen. Raheel awarded with top Brazilian honor

General Raheel Sharif, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, became the first Asian to get Brazil’s coveted award “Order of Merit” in recognition of his leadership for successful fight against multiple threats facing the country.

 

According to Inter Services Public Relations, the army chief was honored with Brazil’s coveted award in a special ceremony held Wednesday.

 

“Gen Raheel is the first Asian to have won this coveted Award,” Director General (DG) of ISPR Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa wrote on his twitter account.

 

Government of Brazil citation reads that order of merit is being given to General Raheel Sharif for displaying remarkable courage to deal with the menace of terrorism, successfully leading the army in the face of multiple threats, giving hope to his nation against dismay / despondency and above all for his great efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

 

General Raheel Sharif through his un-daunting resolve, unflinching sincerity and impeccable professional commitment has become a leading figure in the world. His contribution to promote exemplary ties between Pakistan and Brazil in general and the two armies in particular are enormous and unprecedented.

 

The COAS also met Brazilian Defence Minister and discussed bilateral military ties and common security challenges warranting enhanced coordination level and forging strategic relations.

 

Both the dignitaries also discussed security assistance for Brazil Olympics 2016. They also agreed to benefit from each other’s anti-narcotics experience, DG ISPR tweeted.
