An election tribunal on Tuesday reserved its verdict on an election petition challenging the election of PML-MNA Malik Riaz from NA-118, till November 25.

The tribunal comprising Judge Muhammad Rashid Qamar heard the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Hamid Zaman who lost the election to PML-N’s Malik Riaz in 2013 general elections.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel alleged that the respondent had committed rigging to secure his victory in the polls.

He asked the court to declare the election results void and order re-polling in the constituency.

The court after hearing detailed final arguments of the petitioner’s counsel reserved its verdict till November 25.

The counsel for the respondent completed his final arguments a few days ago.

In his arguments, he said that National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)’s report had confirmed the elections were conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner in NA-118.

He said that no evidence emerged which proved rigging or demanded any further action on the petitioner’s plea.

He pleaded the court to dismiss the petition.
