Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter general secretary Abdul Wahad on Sunday asked the election commission of Pakistan to take notice of pre-polls harassment of candidates in different areas of the city and provide level-playing field to all candidates by stopping a particular political party from its bullying tactics.
He regretted that the code f conduct was being openly violated in the city. He said that banners and posters of their candidates were being forcefully torn and removed from several union councils including UC-19 Pir Colony, UC-27 Pehlwan Goth, UC-31 Abidabad and many other localities of districts West, Central, Korangi and Malir.
He regretted that the administration once again had become a silent spectator and even avoided to ask the violators to obey the code of conduct. He feared that this pre-polls harassment would affect results of the local bodies elections.
He demanded that Rangers personnel should be deployed inside the offices of all returning officers so that the result of the local government polls could not be changed through bullying.
