Patients are suffering difficulties due to technical fault in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a machine at Nishtar Hospital.
The administration of MRI department was asking patients to contact department in next week for tests, said Muhammad Imran, son of a women patient. Similarly, emergency patients have to visit private labs for the test facilities, which are very expensive as compared to Nishtar Hospital. The machine is out of order for last few days which aggravated miseries of the patients further.
Nishtar MRI department used to charge nearly Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 for different tests from outdoor and private patients whereas private labs charge Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 for same sort of tests. Similarly, indoor patients of Nishtar Hospital were offered the facility from Rs 700 to Rs 1200 only.
The patients expressed concern over delay in repair of the machines.
The MRI is used to diagnose a variety of disorders, such as strokes, tumors, aneurysms, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and eye or inner ear problems.
It is also widely used in research to measure brain structure and function, among other things, informed a doctor on condition of anonymity.
When contacted MS Nishtar Hospital Dr Aashique, he told that engineers were working to repair MRI machine. He hoped that the machine would be fully functional within next one or two days.
