Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf which displayed disappointing results in first two phases of local government polls in Punjab now demands the army to monitor the third phase of elections in Rawalpindi being held on 5 December.
PTI’s leader Zahid Kazmi has written a letter to Corps Commander Rawalpindi to make sure free and fair polls in the district.
Kazmi accused that ruling party has been pressuring PTI candidates to be withdrawn from contest in favour of their nominees.
He also blamed that on directions of the government, local police and administration have sided against PTI.
On other hand, ECP officials stated that 16,000 polling staff will be deployed to ensure free, fair and transparent local government (LG) elections.
District Election Commissioner Nadeem Zubair has said that arrangements for elections have been completed in 160 union councils (UCs) of the district. Voters’ lists had also been finalized and 1,911 polling stations would be set up across the district, he added.
