Production of petroleum products stays positive in two months

The production of petroleum products witnessed positive growth of 1.75 percent during the first two months of current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The petroleum products which witnessed increase in production included high speed diesel production of which increased by 0.68 percent in July-August (2014-15) when compared to the production of July-August 2014-15, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The output of Kerosene oil during the period under review increased by 24.04 percent while the production of jet fuel went up by 0.63 percent during the period, the data revealed. Similarly, the production of diesel oil increased by 26.81 percent while the output of furnace oil witnessed nominal increase of 0.06 percent during the first two months of the current fiscal year.

According to the data, the output of lubricating oil witnessed 12.08 percent increase while the production of jute batching oil grew by 22.38 percent. Solvant Naptha witnessed 1.54 percent increase in production while the output of petroleum products increased by 47.71 percent.

The petroleum products which witnessed negative growth in production during the period under review included motor spirits, output of which declined by 0.64 percent, and LPG, output of which decreased by 1.99 percent.

On year-on-year basis, the production of overall petroleum products witnessed increase of 0.93 percent in August as compared to the same month of last year. According to breakup figures, the production of jet fuel oil increased by 7.91 percent in August 2015 compared to August 2014 while the out put of kerosene oil increased by 19.73 percent.

The output of lubricating oil during the month increased by 11.27 percent, jute batching oil by 84.50 percent, LPG by 13.52 percent and petroleum products by 85.04 percent. The products which witnessed negative growth in production during the month of August 2015 compared to August 2014 included motor spirits, output of which declined by 0.12 percent.

Similarly, the production of high speed diesel decreased by 2.24 percent, diesel oil by 22.96 percent, furnace oil by 3.33 percent while the production of LPG decreased by 1.99 percent. It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s over all large scale manufacturing (LSM) registered positive growth of 4.71 percent during the first two months of the current fiscal year (2013-14) as compared to the corresponding month of last year. The Quantum Index Numbers (QIN) of LSM stood at 118.97 points during July-August 2015-16 against 114.28 points during July-August 1014-15.
