Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday said lease of the Moon Garden apartment would be annulled if permission for the construction of the residential complex was not obtained.
The minister’s statement comes a day after the Sindh High Court issued a stay order till November 18 against its previous orders that sought eviction of the residents of the apartment.
Speaking to media, the minister said the Railways had sold the land to Cooperative society in 1988 who then sold two acre out of the total chunk of land to builders. “I don’t know about those who purchased the land,” he said.
He added that 2400 acre yard land of Railways was sharing the burden of the Moon Garden apartment. Rafique, however, said the residents would not be rendered homeless even if the lease is cancelled.
