PARC develops solar dryers for preservation of fruits, vegetables

The Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) has developed solar dryers for the preservation of fruits and vegetables.

Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada told the Senate during question hour on Thursday that the Agriculture Research Council in collaboration with Japan had also started a training programme for growers on various aspects of fruit value addition including processing and preservation techniques.

He said the federal government had also announced incentives in the current budget for the establishment of cold chain storages and the growers can benefit from them for preservation of their yield.

Minister of State for Education and Training Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House that the technical institutes had been equipped with latest technology to provide state-of-the-art training to the youth. He said a programme had been designed for the promotion of technical and vocational training.

Under this programme, vocational secondary schools will be set up in which students from class 6 to 10 will be imparted technical education, he said. “The present government has also given the first-ever technical and vocational training policy after consultation with the federating units. Similarly, we are working with the provinces to bring a uniform syllabus for the formal education with the aim to promote national cohesion and unity.”

Balighur Rehman said the government had planned to establish either a new university or a sub-campus of the existing university in each district during the next three years.
