The Lahore High Court (LHC) has admitted for hearing a petition filed against cancellation of holiday by the government on Iqbal day.
Petitioner Farhad Ali Shah informed the court that the Interior Ministry has cancelled the public holiday in connection with birth anniversary of national poet Allama Iqbal through a notification. He said that the government cancelled the holiday without assigning any reason. This has driven the entire nation into mental disturbance. The nations which forget their forefathers never go ahead on the path of development, he said, adding that observing Iqbal day with enthusiasm is right of every one. . The government cannot suppress this right through a notification, he pleaded.
He requested the court to set aside the notification on cancellation of public holiday on Iqbal Day and issue orders for restoration of this public holiday. He also requested the court t remove the objections raised by the Registrar Office on the petition.
The court while removing the objections of the Registrar Office admitted the petition for preliminary hearing.
The court directed the petitioner to attach government notification with his petition.
