Use of sewage-treated vegetables poses health hazards to Adiala Jail inmates

Use of vegetables being cultivated on the 100 canals of Central Adiala jail Rawalpindi land through sewerage and main holes water has posed health hazards to Inmates of the jail.

Sources disclosed that a farm was set up near barracks where several vegetables were cultivated on over 100 canals and vegetables are utilized for the inmates and some quantity is sold outside. As there is no tube well so the filthy water is used for watering vegetables.

Sources further said that inmates demanded that boring water should be used in place of main holes and a pipeline should be installed from barracks to farm.

Superintendent Jail Saeed Ullah Gondal was contacted several times to ascertain his stance but his cell phone was going switched off.
