The Senate was informed on Thursday that the government is committed to continue the process of privatisation in a transparent manner.

Replying to a question in the House, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation approved a broad based privatisation programme for 69 units and institutions, for which privatisation is under consideration.

He said the mode of the privatisation is subject to the recommendations of the financial advisor and approval of the Cabinet Committee for Privatisation. The minister said that the interests of the employees are being safeguarded while carrying out privatisation.

To another question, he said that Balochistan is not being ignored and a number of development projects are being implemented in the province. He said a large part of grants and loans are being allocated for Balochistan. He said major part of investment under China Pakistan Economic Corridor will be spent in Balochistan.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch informed the House that under China Pakistan Economic Corridor, 36 early harvest projects relating to energy, transport infrastructure, Gwadar and others are being given priority.

He said energy projects of different capacities will be implemented in all the four provinces under CPEC. Abdul Qadir Baloch said western route of the Corridor is being completed on priority basis as dual carriageway.

He said there is a recommendation that it will be converted into Motorway later on. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told the House that most of the targets of revenue collection have been achieved. He said there are many avenues from where the provincial governments can collect taxes. He said the Punjab and Sindh governments have already taken measures in this regard.
