Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani has asked Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar to inform the House about the tax records of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in coming days.

Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Aitzaz Ahsan, during the session raised an objection over the tax records of Premier Sharif between 1992 and 1994, which was missing from FBR record. He said that he was ready to provide the record if the government desires. He said the PM paid zero taxes during the three years and his tax return for the year 1995 was only Rs 470. Aitzaz said that it seems that the tax records for the three years were intentionally removed from the FBR due to non-payment of taxes. Responding to the objection raised by Aitzaz Ahsan, the Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani stopped him from commenting over the issue any further. He said that he would ask the finance minister to brief the House in this regard in the coming days.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said that sale of Euro and Sukuk bonds has resulted in a surge of debt for the country. The government was getting more loans but on the other hand, it was claiming high foreign exchange reserves with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). She said that the government has failed to settle the prices of LNG and there exists a crisis in this regard.

Responding to Sherry Rehman’s objection, the chairman said that issue has already been discussed the previous day.

Senator Robina Khalid demanded the government to brief the House about the relief activities and steps taken to facilitate earthquake victims, and the problems faced by the quake hit population.

Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that the government has failed to ensure human rights, and providing protection to women and children.
