- PML-N wins 763 seats of chairmen in Punjab’s 12 districts
- PPP wins 564 chairman seats in Sindh districts to prove that it’s still a force to reckon with
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has established its supremacy as the most popular and party in Punjab province as it has won 763 seats, while the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has reinforced its footprint in Sindh with 564 seats of chairmen in the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh held on October 31 (Saturday).
According to unofficial statistics, independent candidates have emerged as the largest opposition with 520 seats followed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) managing only 173 seats and relegated to the third position in Punjab.
The PPP has won only 53 seats followed by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) with just two seats while other political parties could not ward off the PML-N pressure and managed only 53 seats in the 12 polling districts of the province.
PML-N may call Lahore its stronghold after its candidates swept the LG polls 2015 in Lahore district with 230 seats out of the 274 union councils while the PTI could only manage 12 seats and the rest won by the independents.
The popularity of the PML-N can be assessed from the fact that PML-N candidates have defeated PTI and JI in their own backyard as PTI and JI candidates lost UC seats in Zaman Park (PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s residential area) and Mansoora (JI headquarters).
In Bahawalnagar district, PML-N candidates have won 27 seats while PTI won only 9 seats and the other parties and indepnedents have bagged 81 seats.
In Faisalabad, PML-N won 67 seats, PTI 12 seats while 83 seats have been won by the independent candidates.
In Bhakkar district, PML-N has won 52 seast, PPP 9 and PTI have won only 6 while independents have bagged 38 seats.
In Kasur, PML-N has secured 58 seats with independent candidates managing 38 seats while the PTI could win 18 seats in the district.
In Okara district, PML-N has won 52 seats while independent candidates grabbed 38 seats, PPP 9 and PTI won only six seat.
In Pakpattan district, PML-N has won 28, independent candidates have won 34, while PTI secured 8 seats.
In Chakwal district, PML-N has won 08 seats, PML-Q 01 seat, other parties 01 seat while PTI could won only two seats in the district.
In Vehari district, PML-N candidates have won 34, PTI has bagged 18, PPPP has managed only 01 while the independents have won 48 seats.
In Gujrat district, PML-N has emerged victorious with PML-N candidates bagging 26 Chairman seats while PTI could win only 18 seats, PML-Q 15 and independent candidates grabbed 15 seats.
In Lodhran district, PML-N has won 32 seats with PTI candidates declared successful against 06 seats while 20 seats have been won by other parties.
In Nankana Sahib, independent candidates have won 40 seats while the PML-N candidates have secured 15 seats in the district.
Most of the independents are expected to join the PML-N after the results are officially announced by the Election Commission.
SINDH RESULTS:
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results on Sunday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was leading in first phase of local government elections in Sindh.
PPP has so far won 564 seats, while Pakistan Muslim League Functional(PML-F) was lagging behind with 50 while Independent candiadtes managed to bag 130 seats.
Voters on the first phase Saturday tried to make the most of a much-awaited opportunity to elect their representatives at the grassroots.
Polling was held in Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Qamber, Larkana, Shahdadkot and Jacobabad districts in Sindh province.
As the unofficial results poured in, winning candidates and their jubilant supporters across Sindh celebrated victories by dancing to the drum beats and party songs.
Although polling in most areas was by and large peaceful, Khairpur saw deadly violence when supporters of PPP and PML-F fought a gunbattle which claimed 11 lives.
