The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday suffered a setback in its stronghold Larkana by losing four wards out of five in town committee to a PTI-backed local group in local government elections.
According to results pouring in from the area, Liaquat Soomro, Bakhsh Qalal, Imdad Kolachi and Habibullah Khokar belonging to Anahr Group succeeded in ward, 2, 3 4 and 5. PPP’s Ghulam Murtaz was the only candidate of the ruling party of the province who emerged as victorious in ward 1. Local government elections were held in eight districts of Sindh in the first phase.
BILAWAL CASTS HIS FIRST VOTE IN LARKANA
The chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, on Saturday cast first vote of his life during local government elections.
The PPP leader cast his vote at a polling station at Ward 4 in Larkana. Smiling young Bilawal also showed his ballot paper to the party workers. Tough security arrangements were made on this occasion. A large number of PPP workers were also present who raised slogans in favour of PPP and Bhutto. Bilawal also met with party workers at the polling station. Meanwhile, opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah also polled his vote in Sukkur.
CM’S RELATIVE CAUGHT RED-HANDED FOR TRAMPLING ELECTORAL CODE
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah’s close relative Irshad Jilani was caught red-handed on Saturday for trampling law as she attempted to cast votes of other women to ensure her nephew’s win in Sindh local bodies election.
According to reports, Irshad Jilani cast her vote at polling station number 8 in Khairpur where she was also seen forcing other women to vote her nephew who is contesting the elections for counselor’s seat on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ticket. On the other hand, mismanagement also marred the ongoing first phase of local government elections at various polling stations in Punjab and Sindh. The polling staff once again failed to hold elections without any misconduct despite taking measures. The performance of electoral employees was seen inefficient as the residents broke the locks of male polling station in Sukkur with bricks. The polling was begun after 20-minute delay. Moreover, misprinting of ballot papers also added fuel to the fire.
