Sri Lankan legend and recently retired left–handed batsman Kumar Sangakar has signed up for the first edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sangakara, who has also signed up for the Masters Champions League (MCL), will be giving preference to MCL in case of a date clash, as the veteran’s event is also going to held in UAE in the same dates as PSL.

The first edition of the PSL will run from the February 4 till 24 next year. The tournament will consist of five teams in the first edition, which are named after four provincial capitals (Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar) and a federal capital (Islamabad) of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already signed up more than 100 players for the draft, which include the likes of Kevin Pieterson, Shakibal Hasan, Chris Gayle, Grant Elliot and Kieron Pollard.

“Sangakkara is a world-class sportsman and we are excited to welcome him on board,” Najam Sethi, the head of PSL, said.

“He brings a wealth of experience to the PSL. His inclusion makes the player draft even more exciting.”

Another Sri Lankan legend and former captain Mahela Jayawardene has also signed up for PSL, but his management team confirmed that he will also prefer MCL over PSL, should there be a clash of dates.

Dates of MCL are yet to be finalized.
