Sindh chief secy declares ‘high alert’ in province after massive quake

Chief Secretary of Sindh Siddiq Memon has declared the province on high alert after the 8.1 magnitude quake that rattled the country.

In view of the jolts that shook upper areas of the country this afternoon, the provincial chief secretary in his directives issued to concerned departments urged officials to develop an urgent “state of preparedness” and take necessary pre-emptive measures.

All hospital, rural health centres and dispensaries were ordered to remain functional around the clock, while provincial departments were also told to develop strong coordination with each other in case of any serious situation.

Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) along with officials of health department, local government, commissioners and deputy commissioners of different districts have been asked to ensure that measures are adopted to reduce intensity of associated loss to minimum.

This was to ensure that Sindh was prepared in case of a jolt.

Bilawal grieves over mounting losses due to earthquake

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, has expressed shock and grief over the loss of precious human lives, and damage to property in the earthquake, which hit major parts of Pakistan on Monday afternoon.

A statement said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari asked PPP workers reach out to the help those in need in the aftermath of the earthquake.

“This is the time to perform national unity and allay the sufferings of the people hit by the natural calamity,” he stated.

He said PPP will fully participate in the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of earthquake all over the country.
