The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed a Hindu NGO to approach the government’s concerned ministry to get the custody of Geeta, Indian girl, who has been stuck in Pakistan over a decade.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the petition filed by Hindu NGO seeking Geeta’s custody to take her care according to Hindu religion.
While disposing of the petition, the court observed that the matter of Geeta’s custody was within the government’s ambit and the petitioner should contact the concerned ministry.
According to the petitioner, Atam Parkash Chanani, who is founder of a Hindu NGO, Geeta has been in Pakistan for 13 years and living in Edhi shelter home. Parkash submitted that Geeta alias Guddi was found in Samjhota Express and authorities believed that she had crosses Pak-India border via train.
Citing the ministry of foreign affairs, DG Rangers Punjab, inspector general of Punjab police, interior ministry and Edhi welfare trust as respondents, the Hindu NGO prayed the court to direct the respondents to hand them over Geeta’s custody for her good care. They also requested the court to direct the respondents to produce past record of Geeta.
