The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Friday challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) the delimitation of constituencies for the upcoming local government election in the federal capital.

In a petition filed by the party’s lawyers, PTI has argued the delimitation of constituencies for the local bodies’ elections in Islamabad is not according to the law, which raises the possibility of pre-poll rigging by political parties.

“In the Union Councils (UC) from where the PTI won with a large number of votes in the previous elections, the population per UC has been greatly increased so that the number of such UCs can be decreased. On the other hand, in the UCs where the PML-N performed better in previous polls, their population per UC has been decreased to increase the number of such UCs,” said PTI leader Asad Umar while speaking to reporters.

The party has asked the court to declare an order dated October 10 null and void and to order fresh delimitation of constituencies for the polls.
