Pottery craft workshop concludes

The seven-day Pottery Making workshop concluded here Sunday at National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa with participation of a large number of children from various schools of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) and National Centre for Special Education (NCSE) also collaborated with Lok Virsa through participation of their students in the training program.

The Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology (Heritage Museum) remained the hub of craft making activities from 5-11 October 2015.

Around 500 children and students participated in the training program from October 5 to 10, whereas the last day, 11th October was reserved for adults. 200 adults of different age groups interacted with renowned potters and learnt from them techniques involved in the pottery making.

Executive Director, Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed said “We have initiated this program for students and young children around folk crafts. Our Heritage Museum highlights one craft for a week every month and has artisans and experts available for children to engage and learn from them.

The students termed this program as an excellent opportunity which allowed them to interact with master artisans from remote and far-flung areas.

Four master trainers, Niaz Ahmad from Saidpur village of Islamabad, Faqir Muhammad from Sindh, Sardar Ali from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Naveed Ahmad from Multan showcased their craftsmanship in the seven-day program.
