PSF chairman under scanner over illegal appointments

The Ministry of Science and Technology (S&T) has decided to hold an enquiry against the chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) for violating the set rules on appointing new staff.

Pakistan Today published a story on September 16 that PSF Chairman Dr Mohammad Asharf has appointed his blue eyed staffers.

The chairman picked his new staff without following set rules and issued offer letters to staff that goes all the way up to grade 20. The chairman has reportedly appointed his blue eyed staffer, one of them was re-appointed twice in few months and issued offer letter of appointment to Dr. Mirza Habib Ali for the post of Principal Scientific Officer (BS-19) on June 09, 2015 against USAID funded program (Natural Sciences Linkage Programme- NSLP) and after three months on September 14, 2015 the said person was re-appointed as Director Research Support (BS-20), letter PSF vide N0. 3(4)/82.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Rana Tanveer was not available for comments but spokesman Khalid Siddique told Pakistan Today that the ministry has issued inquiry letter to chairman PSF for justification of violation of the letter Ref. F. No. 1 (4)/2014-Coord-Volume2/April 16, 2015.

Meanwhile, the PSF chairman had earlier told Pakistan Today that he is fully authorized to appoint anyone at any post. He claimed that PSF has its own selection board and can choose the person of choice.
