The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has announced to implement Urdu as official language and thus become the first chamber in the country to implement the order of the Supreme Court.
In a statement released on Friday, LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arsad said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had declared Urdu as national language and according to Article 251, the national language of Pakistan was Urdu but, unfortunately, it could not become “our identity”.
“If most developed nations like China and Germany were doing most of their work in their official languages. Why can’t we,” he questioned.
He said keeping in view the literacy rate in the country, historic decision of the Supreme Court would go a long way and resolve various issues being faced by the industry and the masses.
He urged all the government departments to use Urdu as official language and translate their rules and regulations, acts, status and websites into Urdu.
The LCCI chief urged the Federal Board of Revenue to issue income tax related documents in Urdu to make tax system simple and easy to understand for the business community. He said tax return form should also be in the national language and contain only one page so that everyone could understand it easily.
