Heatstroke sufferers’ toll reaches 16

Of 16 heatstroke cases reported in Karachi Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) hospitals in two days, seven were reported on Friday.

KMC Senior Director Health and Medical Services Dr Salma Kausar said at least 16 heatstroke-affected people were brought to KMC hospitals, including Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Sobhraj Maternity Hospital in last two days.

She explained that nine cases were reported on Thursday while seven on Friday. She said the KMC had established heatstroke relief centres in the city in view of the situation arising of the ongoing warm weather.

The Sindh Health Department and KMC had already declared emergency in hospitals throughout the city. All necessary medical facilities and medicines have been provided to the hospitals to avert any untoward situation.

Karachi Director Health Dr Zafar Ejaz said public hospitals throughout the city had been put on high alert. He said emergency had already been declared in public hospitals to deal with heatstroke cases. He said 51 heatstroke management centres had been made functional across the city to provide relief to heat-wave victims.
