Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddiq Memon has appealed to the citizens of Karachi to adopt all necessary precautions and avert possible hazards of a predicted heatwave from Wednesday to Oct 2.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said the latest report by the meteorological department had forecast an unusual surge in the temperature and administrative steps would be in place to cope with the situation, but the people also needed to be cautious.
Urging the citizens to ensure regular water intake, Mr Memon said the elderly must avoid direct exposure to sun.
The chief secretary said all heatstroke centres across the city were being reactivated and they would remain functional round the clock.
He asked the health department and local bodies’ officials to ensure that the staffers of the facilities concerned would remain on duty.
He said the administration would facilitate vendors and peddlers having mobile stalls and see that shades were arranged for them.
The Met Office forecast partly cloudy weather in the city during the next 24 hours with the maximum temperature of about 40 degrees Celsius.
Mainly hot and dry weather is likely to prevail elsewhere in Sindh.
