The Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday assured the Sindh High Court (SHC) that salaries and pensions of the employees will be paid before Eid-ul-Azha.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Muneeb Akhter was hearing petitions of KMC workers union, Sajjan, president of CBA KMC, Justice helpline and retired pensioners seeking issuance of salaries and pensions of approximately 80,000 serving and retired employees of KMC and DMCs.
On Tuesday’s hearing, legal advisor of KMC stated that the finance department worked till 1:00 AM last night, and the salaries and pensions of current and retired employees would be paid ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The court directed the KMC, State Bank of Pakistan and the court’s inspection team to conduct a meeting and form a legal draft for the proper payment of salaries and pensions.
The petitioners submitted that thousands of employees including the fire brigade department staff and pensioners had not been paid salaries for several months.
They stated that KMC and DMC employees were not getting salaries and pensions properly which was causing them hardships. The petitioners prayed the court to direct the authorities to issue salaries and pensions to the KMC and DMC employees within the stipulated time.
