Signal-free corridors and orange train are the best environment-friendly projects and can help make the atmosphere pollution free, said Punjab University’s College of Earth and Environmental Science Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad during a seminar on Sunday.

He said all such projects were being run successfully in almost all the advanced countries and were showing excellent results.

According to Ahmad, signal free corridors and orange train projects in Lahore could help control carbon dioxide emission in the air.

He said through signal-free corridors, all vehicles kept on moving swiftly without any mess on roads, hence causing no serious threat of carbon dioxide emissions compared to vehicles waiting at stop signals. The same were the features of orange train which also ultimately reduced carbon dioxide emissions and minimised the flow of traffic, he added.

Ahmad stressed the urgent need for early completion of all such projects in Pakistan without wasting time. He said that before the launch of all such projects, the environment impact assessment report (EIAR) was prepared and the public in general was invited for open debate on advantages and disadvantages after which the project was launched.
