Gunmen riding motorcycles fired at a Samaa TV DSNG van in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area on Sunday, officials said.
According to initial information from police, the gunmen followed the DSNG van belonging to SAMAA TV news channel and opened fire on it in Liaquatabad No 10 area. One bullet hit the van’s windscreen and shattered it.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, officials confirmed, adding that the attackers fled the scene.Police added that they had found a bullet casing from a 9mm bullet from the scene of the incident.
Sunday’s incident comes amid a surge in attacks on journalists and media workers in Karachi. Less than two weeks ago, unknown gunmen attacked a Geo news DSNG van in the Bahadurabad area of the city, killing senior satellite engineer Arshad Ali Jafri and injuring driver Anees.
Police and Rangers arrived at the scene and collected evidences from the site where empty bullet shells were recovered.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the attack and directed police authorities to investigate the firing incident.
