Lahore – Our Political Correspondent: In a surprising political development, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has even lost its internal party elections in the Punjab.
“We always knew things were bad for the PPP in the Punjab,” says Tariq Zafar, a political analyst. “But that they were so bad, no one had any idea.”
In the internal elections held on Saturday, the party’s provincial president’s slot went to Tariq Butt, from the PML-N, whereas the provincial general secretary position went to Saleem Zafar, a member of the PTI. The names of other provincial Central Executive Committee members are Saleem Bhatti, ANP; Ashiq Jamal, JUI-F and Raza Soomro, PPP Sindh.
At the party’s oath-taking ceremony, the new office bearers vowed to take their new responsibilities seriously. “Nothing succeeds like success,” said Tariq Butt, the newly elected Punjab president. “We as the PML-N workers have a track record and will manage the party much better than it is being run now.”
