3,600-MW gas-based powerhouse in Bhikki planned

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday presided over a high-level meeting in which matters regarding setting up a gas-based powerhouse in Bhiki, Sheikhupura, were discussed.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that sincere efforts were being made under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for elimination of load-shedding and planning had been made for setting up 3600-megawatt gas-based energy projects.

He said the Punjab government would set up a gas-based energy project of 1200-megawatt, and the federal government would set up similar projects of 2400-megawatt. He said all-out measures were being taken to control the energy crisis and power projects were being implemented transparently and speedily while a high standard was also being maintained.

The chief minister said the process of acquisition of land for gas power projects and other issues would be settled expeditiously. He said that wind corridors for generation of power had also been identified in the province.

Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, presidents of National Bank and Bank of Punjab, Habib Bank and Shaukat Tarin; the additional chief secretary energy and Punjab Power Development Company chairman were also present during the meeting.
