  • PAT chief demands accountability of Sharif brothers for killing of 14 PAT workers in Model Town last year

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said on Friday the present corrupt and cruel government was the biggest hurdle in total elimination of terrorism and extremism from the country.

According to a press release, Qadri, while addressing the central core committee of his party, said the family politics and kitchen cabinet culture had ruined the country and complete implementation on the National Action Plan was necessary.

The PAT chief said that 150 corrupt ‘big fish’ and their facilitators must be apprehended and tried in courts. “Our patience on the Model Town tragedy should not be further tested.”

The PAT core committee members Dr Hassan Mohyuddin Qadri, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Basharat Jaspal, Fayyaz Warraich, Noorullah Sadique and Qazi Faiz Islam and Dr Tahirul Qadri paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of the Peshawar Airbase attack. They condemned the attack in strong words and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

The meeting expressed its concern on the arrest of PAT leader Sabir Khan and the registering of false cases against him and other PAT workers.

The members were of the view that the government was using police to register false cases against PAT workers to stop them from campaigning for the local bodies (LB) elections. The members said the state machinery and state resources were being used in the LB polls, and urged the Pakistan Election Commission to take immediate action against the ruling party for these illegal tactics.

The PAT chief meanwhile demanded that accountability of the Sharif brothers’ be started from the murder of 14 innocent PAT workers in the Model Town tragedy. He said the heirs of the martyrs of Model Town were waiting for justice and those concerned should not take test their patience anymore.

Qadri said the Punjab chief minister had been covering up the mess of his minister despite solid proof of his corruption. He said that corruption in the Nandipur Power Project had shaken the very roots of the country. He said the prime minister had failed to send a reference to the National Accountability Bureau, adding that he should answer why he had not done that as yet.
