A man who watched his paralysed grandmother struggling to wash her own hair has come up with an ingenious solution to keep her clean.

Chen Gongke, 38, transformed an old helmet and a tank into a machine that can do the job in five minutes.

His invention uses a motorcycle helmet, two water tanks and a powered control panel, to heat water, wash massage and then dry the user’s barnet.

But although it produces fast results, it took Chen 16 years of tinkering and 18 broken helmets before he could finish the model.

Chen, from China, said although it was not completed in time to help her, he hopes it will help many other people.

He successfully tested the device on his father.
