The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday upheld its ban on broadcast of speeches and display of pictures of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain until October 2.

A full-bench of the LHC headed by Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi heard the case.

Hussain’s counsel Asma Jahangir requested the court to reconsider its decision regarding the ban. MQM Rabita Committee member Dr Farooq Sattar said that Hussain had apologised for whatever it was in his speeches that offended the nation and institutions.

The bench maintained that everyone is equal in eyes of the law and that the court could revisit its decision if the MQM leader’s written statement is presented before it.
