Ex-Old Trafford skipper insists Hector Moreno’s challenge that left Luke Shaw with double leg fracture was an ‘accident’ and just part of high-speed professional football

Ex-Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has labelled the tackle that ended Luke Shaw’s season as “brilliant”.

Hector Moreno’s challenge on United’s left-back left him with a double leg fracture but Keane insisted the PSV Eindhoven man had done nothing wrong – and everything right.

Keane famed for his hard-man attitude to the game said: “I thought it was a brilliant challenge. I love the physical side of the game.

“You can always tell by the players’ reactions – they are the best judges as they are near the tackle. They didn’t think it was a bad challenge at the time.

“When players are travelling at great speed then (injuries) are always going to happen. I am surprised there’s not more. It was an accident with his trailing foot.”

Shaw is expected to be out for around six months and is still in the Netherlands after surgery on the injury he sustained on Tuesday.
