The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday sought all documents in the case filed against acquittal of former president Asif Ali Zardari in two NAB references.

A two-member bench of IHC comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Amir Farooq took up the case for hearing.

NAB Prosecutor Chaudhry Riaz told the court that evidence was not presented and witnesses did not appear in the trial court against Asif Ali Zardari. He said that former NAB joint secretary Hassan Waseem Afzal did not appear in the court for recording evidence despite their efforts.

The court remarked, “You had plenty of opportunity to furnish evidence during trial. You could have issued non-bailable arrest warrants of any witness who did not appear.”

Accountability court had accepted the plea for exoneration of former president Asif Ali Zardari in ARY Gold and Ursis tractor references.

The court while ordering the furnishing of all the documents related to the case adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
