A local court on Thursday gave National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) Deputy Assistant Director Qamar Nadeem and ASI Khan Munawar into Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) custody on three-day physical remand.

The two officials are accused of providing National Identity Cards (NIC) to Afghan refugees for millions of rupees.

The NADRA officials were presented before a senior civil judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar. The counsel for the culprits said that his clients used to refer the Afghan nationals to higher-ups who are not nominated in the case.

However, the investigation officer said that the agency needs to nab other criminals and agents involved in the case in light of NADRA’s arrested officials’ confessions.

The court granted physical remands of both culprits to FIA for three days. The agency has been ordered to present the criminals in next hearing.

According to the report, each Afghanistan national was awarded Pakistani citizenship for Rs 400,000 (a little over $4,000).
