A delegation led by Vice President South Asia and South Eastern Asia of Google Rajan Anandan met Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It was agreed in the meeting to promote cooperation between the Punjab government and Google in information technology sector. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the promotion of information technology is the top priority of the government. He said that information technology is being fully utilised for capacity-building in provincial departments and institutions, which is resulting in the promotion of e-governance in the province.
He said that it is the need of the hour that we benefit from digital technology, and provide speedy and effective services to the masses. He said that Punjab government is fully benefitting from digital technology and it is helping improve education, health, infrastructure, law & order, police and other sectors, while the system of monitoring of governmental affairs through smart phones has also been introduced. This has helped with the efficiency of the departments.
The CM further said that work is being carried out on Safe City Project for controlling crime and maintenance of peace. Similarly, he said, a project has been evolved to set up a modern Knowledge Park and its completion will help in the promotion of education and research activities as well as information technology. He said that the Land Record Management & Information System has facilitated the people in acquiring their ownership deeds as well as eliminated corruption, fraud and forgery. He said that the first Information Technology University of the country in public sector has been set up in Lahore, and it is playing an important role in equipping students with modern knowledge.
Rajan Anandan said that cooperation with Punjab government in the information technology sector will be promoted and they will be happy to work with Punjab under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif. He said that Shehbaz Sharif is taking effective measure under a vision for the promotion of good governance in the province, and has completed a number of development projects in a record period during his tenure.
