The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to Rangers director general (DG), additional attorney general (AAG) and other respondents on a petition seeking whereabouts of a missing person, Rizwan Ahmed.
The SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat, took up the petition filed by Rizwan’s mother, seeking the whereabouts of her son. The woman petitioner stated that her son was serving at the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, there was no any criminal record against her son at any police station and he was also not involved in anti-social activity.
She submitted that Rizwan was at home on August 26 when Rangers raided their house and picked up her son without disclosing any reason of the arrest. “I approached Rangers Liaquatabad DSR in-charge and senior house officer (SHO) of the area to ascertain the whereabouts of my son, but they showed unawareness regarding the detention,” she submitted in the petition .
Citing Sindh government, Sindh IGP, Rangers DG, In charge Rangers DSR Liaquatabad, DIG Central and SHO Liaquatabad as respondents, she pleaded to the court to direct the respondents to produce her detained son before the court. After initial hearing, SHC issued notices to AAG, Rangers and other respondents to file comments in the next hearing.
In a separate case, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed Sindh Home Department to furnish the report about the whereabouts of Muhammad Danish who is missing since May 2015.
SHC has directed the Home Department to file the report regarding the issue by September 10, otherwise the additional secretary of the Home Department would be called in person to explain the position.
SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat, was hearing the petition, filed by Abdul Majeed, the father of missing Danish. The petitioner stated that his son is married and had a minor child. He conducts painting work, the petitioner said.
According to the petitioner, Danish was at his home on May 7 when Rangers personnel knocked their door and entered the house forcefully. Some other persons wearing masks were also with the Rangers who pointed towards his son, after which the personnel whisked away his son.
He stated that on next day, they told him that his son was not well and asked him to provide some medicines for the detainee; however, he provided the medicines but was not allowed to meet his son.
Citing Sindh government, IGP Sindh, DG Rangers, and SHO Kalri Police Station as respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct the respondents to produce his son before it. He also requested the court to direct the respondents to show FIR if it is registered against the detainee, if he is not involved in any criminal activity, he should be released.
