The detention of Dr Asim Hussain, former petroleum adviser and Chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission, has been challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday.

The detention was challenged by Dr Asim’s wife, Zarin Hussain. In the plea, the petitioner has contended that the law under which Dr Asim is being detained is unconstitutional.

The court has issued notices to the federal government, Sindh government, Rangers and others for September 15 over the petition. On August 26, officials in plain clothes raided the office of Dr Asim Hussain taking him away to an undisclosed location for questioning. A day after he was taken into custody, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi remanded Dr Asim into Rangers custody for 90 days. A lawyer for the Rangers told the court that the suspect is being investigated for alleged involvement in money-laundering, ‘china-cutting’, and illegally issuing licenses for unlawful CNG stations across Sindh.
