ANF seizes narcotics worth Rs 7.21b

The Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) on Friday seized huge amounts of narcotics weighing in at 2.97 tonnes, in four operations in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Qilla Abdullah.

A press statement issued by ANF said the drugs, worth Rs 7.21 billion in the international market, included 2.96 tonnes of hashish and 16.6 Kg heroin. ANF also apprehended 5 persons involved in drug trafficking.

ANF Quetta raided a desolate site in the general area of Killi Chori, Maizai Adda, Tehsil, District Qilla Abdullah on a tip-off and seized 2,956 Kg hashish. The drug consignment was concealed in plastic bags at an uninhabited location situated in the mountainous terrain far away from the populated area. The drug consignment was placed at a cache site for handing over to another narcotics group. Authorities say the drugs were to be shifted to some safe location for smuggling abroad.

In a separate operation, ANF Rawalpindi, acting on a tip-off, apprehended a drug carrier indentified as Muhammad Hussain, resident of Peshawar near Kohinoor Mills, GT Road, Rawalpindi and recovered 600 grams of heroin from his possession. According to officials, the accused intended to deliver the heroin to a local drug peddler in Rawalpindi.

On another tip-off, ANF Rawalpindi Road checking team intercepted three suspects traveling on a motorcycle (AAP-999) at Rawat Bus Stop, GT Road, Rawalpindi and recovered 5 Kg hashish from their possession. The apprehended persons were identified as Yasir Mehmood and Muhammad Wahab, residents of Murree and Syed Husnain, resident of Rawalpindi.

In another operation, ANF Lahore in collaboration with ASF at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore acted on a tip-off and detained a passenger named Muhammad Nabeel resident of Gujrat and recovered 16 Kgs of heroin while checking his luggage. Heroin was found in 2 passenger bags in Muhammad Nabeel’s possession The accused intended to smuggle the drugs to Italy by Emirates Airline flight EK-623.

All cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations and further investigation is underway.
