Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Sajid Kiani said in a statement on Friday that incidents of car lifting in the federal capital had decreased by over 50 percent due to effective policing.

The SSP Operations said that only 230 incidents of car lifting were reported in the first eight months of the present year as compared to 500 car thefts reported during the same period last year.

He said that Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACL) of Islamabad police was working efficiently to control car theft incidents in the federal capital.

Kiani said there were 164 entrance and exit points in the federal capital, adding that it was difficult to deploy police personnel at every point.

He said that joint patrolling of police and Rangers had been increased in the city to maintain law and order.

Kiani said the screening of Bara Khau, Tarnol and Sabzi Mandi areas would continue till the completion of operation Zarb-e-Azb.

SSP said that dozens of Afghan nationals had been arrested on failing to show their identity cards during the screening.

He said police patrolling had been increased in rural areas like Tarnol, Lohi Bher, Sihala and Bhara Kahu areas.

Steps are also being taken for effective policing and protection of lives and property of the citizens, he added.

He said that the institution had been depoliticized to obtain better results in curbing crime in the federal capital.
