A two-member bench of the Supreme Court Tuesday suspended court orders for the restoration of 62 police officials who were recruited on bogus documents.

The bench comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the orders while hearing petitions filed by police authorities challenging the Lahore High Court orders for the restoration of the 62 police officials.

The bench heard the matter at Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

During the hearing, Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) along with other police high-ups appeared before the bench on being summoned.

The IGP admitted that the sad incident did take place due to administrative issues.

“Due to a large workload, proper supervision could not be done,” he added.

At this, Justice Ijaz observed that nobody bothered to examine whether the police officials were recruited or not.

“The officials involved in robbery and other crimes were simultaneously doing their duty in the police force,” he added.

The court asked the IGP to remove such officials from the police force.

The IGP said that it was a sad incident that such recruitment were made in Multan and other cities.

He said that, individually, such matters were reported to police higher ups who took action.

The court was further apprised that the record of the Punjab police was being computerised and the process would be completed within a few months.

After the computerisation, officials recruited on bogus documents and involved in violation of discipline will easily be identified.

The bench asked the IGP to take action against officials involved in corruption and violation of discipline.

The bench directed relevant persons to submit details of inquiries regarding bogus recruitments within 15 days, and adjourned the matter.
