Addressing a press conference in the federal capital on Monday, State Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar accused former petroleum minister and Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Asim Hussain of backing fake medical colleges and facilitating provision of bogus degrees.
The state minister vowed for extending cooperation with law enforcers who are investigating Dr Asim for alleged fraud. The alleged culprit has also been removed from presidency of Nursing Council, she added.
Tarar said that cases would be forwarded to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding alleged embezzlement in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) management. She said that Dr Shaista not a legal registrar but Dr Nadeem Akbar is.
The state minister vowed to get PMDC Ordinance approved by the Parliament. It is a mere coincidence that the Ordinance came to light when Dr Asim was arrested, she added.
Tarar said that PMDC members’ number would be cut to 35 from 81. The total of 35 members would have at least 20 elected while 15 honorary representatives. She further said that all provinces would be given representation in PMDC on equality basis. She also resolved to hold PMDC elections within 120 days.
