Textile industry issues: Meeting with PM expected in 2nd week of September: APTMA

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Chairman S M Tanveer has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured of resolving the textile industry issues in a meeting likely to be held in second week of September with APTMA and other textile industry associations.

He said the spade work for this meeting was under process with the inter-ministerial committee. Earlier, the APTMA had represented eight-point proposal to the federal textile board, working group of the ministry of commerce and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan.

He said the policy action pointed arising out of these meetings would be put forward to the prime minister for his consideration.

S M Tanveer said the APTMA’s eight-point proposal included withdrawal of electricity surcharges and GIDC on gas, zero rating of all textile exports, strengthening of domestic commerce, export refinance to the entire value chain, refund issues, TUFS, LTFF to spinning industry for growth and focus-market support. He said the APTMA leadership including himself and group leader Gohar Ejaz had briefed the prime minister on the sustainability and growth of the textile industry while travelling along with him to Kazakhstan.

He said the textile industry would be all set to undertake initiatives of investment, exports and employment once the viability of the industry was restored and the way forward was designed and agreed upon by the two sides. The provision of enabling environment would help achieve the prime minister’s vision of industrialization, he added.
