NA Acting Speaker leaves for UN to attend World Speakers Conference

Acting Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi left for New York, Sunday to attend 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament being held in United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA from 31st August to 2nd September, 2015. He is leading a 10-member delegation comprising of MNAs Zahid Hamid, Ch. Shahbaz Babar, Junaid Anwar Ch., Shahzadi Umarzadi Tiwana, Sardar Arshad Khan Leghari and Aftab Shaban Mirani along with Secretary National Assembly Muhammad Riaz.

This summit of Speakers of Parliament from across the world is a unique forum for dialogue and cooperation between parliaments at the highest level that is annually convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Pakistan Parliamentary delegation will participate in the plenary session and its related meetings. The delegation will also meet their counterparts on the sidelines of the Conference and share views and experiences.

The Acting Speaker will speak about Pakistan’s principled and historic stand on Jammu & Kashmir in the Conference. He will highlight the plight of Kashmiri people, atrocities committed by the Indian forces on them and impress upon his foreign colleagues to take up the issue of Kashmiris’ right of self-determination in accordance with the UN Security Council’s Resolutions on Kashmir through their respective governments.

The Conference will converse upon peace, democracy and development seen through the parliamentary lens. At the conclusion of the Conference, a declaration will be adopted to be presented officially to the UN Summit later in September.
