Regional Police Officer (RPO) Fakhar Sultan Raja Friday said during the year the police carried out successful raids in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal during which 3,335 proclaimed offenders and 1.270 court absconders were arrested.
According to a press release, the RPO said that by using professional skills, the police managed to arrest the killers of Additional Session Judge Tahir Khan Niazi.
A team of police officials headed by City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi was set up to trace the criminals involved in the robbery, in which a money changer was deprived of Rs 80 million at Islamabad International Airport.
The police managed to arrest the criminals and also recovered the looted money.
Acting on the National Action Plan, the RPO informed that police conducted 2,489 search operations to arrest criminals.
Giving details, he said that 100,041 persons were questioned while 668 cases were registered.
During the general hold up police recovered six klashnikoves, three repeaters, 34 guns, 11 rifles, 1,061 pistols, 34 revolvers, three dagger, four knives and 2,856 bullets from their possession.
Carrying the operation, police held 20,986 vehicles without number plates, 1,031 tinted glasses and 1,376 suspects were interrogated.
Under the amplifier act, police arrested 293 and registered 280 cases against the violators.
Police arrested 1,467 Afghans on charge of no proper documentation and registered 344 cases under the foreigners act.
Similarly, police arrested 1,572 persons for violation of renting laws.
Police arrested 197 for violating wall chalking act.
The security of worship places should further tightened to avert any untoward incident, he added.
